A 73 year-old, Ronald Corwin, claims to have hit a concrete barrier near a docking station on E 56th St. and flipped over his rented Citi Bike. Consequently, Ronald had nerve damage that impaired his sense of smell and taste. He is now suing the privte operator of Citi Bike for $15 million dollars for his pain and suffering.
The concrete barrier is a six-foot by six-inch wheelstop by the bike rack. However, Ronald claims that there were no colored warnings or cones nearby to indicate its location. After the incident, the barrier was painted orange and had an orange construction cone placed next to it. A spokesperson for the city Law Department refused to comment.
