Just recently, the White House offered a bit of clarity on the current administration opposing to a Veterans Affairs reform bill, indicating such provision could lead to a lawsuit against the government.
Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, said he wasn’t aware of the specific reasons why the administration is overly worried about the bill, which makes it simpler to remove senior Veteran Affairs officials.
Carney offered reporters a clue on the administration’s hesitance in welcoming the bill. He reiterated that the administration shared and gave support to the bill’s aim, and that the president is strong-minded in punishing officials for misconduct.
A group representing high-level government officials complained the bill would get rid of the due process shield for high-ranking officials. The Senior Executives Association said current government employees can appeal demotions as well as firings to an admin panel. The bill would abolish such process.
The group showed their concern that the VA bill will let the department incriminate government workers in the media and involve political matters in the firing procedure.
