Jones v. Dirty World Entertainment Recordings LLC ended today with a decision in favor of the company, TheDirty.com. The decision in favor of TheDirty.com confirms the federal statute which protects sites as well as companies from liability when their users submit information or posts on their forums, discussion boards, or other type of online social communication. There have been similar cases with the same types of findings. A company canny be held liable for something a thirs party wrote on their site. Even though the decision handed down today is reversing the decision made in district court, it is still following the trends. The goal of the courts for future cases which are similar in nature is that the case can be resolved much earlier in the case rather than it having to go this far. Had Dirty World certified the interlocutory appeal, they could have eliminated the need of any secondary trial.
