U.S. prosecutors are currently probing current and former GM workers as part of a criminal investigation regarding the automaker giant’s faulty ignition switches, which has been connected to a dozen deaths and thousands of personal injuries.
Ever since early this year, the automaker has been part of a scandal on why it took more than ten years to start recalling Saturn Ions, Chevrolet Cobalts, and other vehicles with issues that caused cars to stall during operation.
Sources area saying U.S. Attorney Preet Bharar’s Manhattan office requested current and former workers from GM to come in for interviews.
Furthermore, along with the attorney’s criminal probe, nearly a dozen state attorneys are investigating GM regarding the faulty ignition switches.
GM turned over e-mails, numbering by tens of thousands, and other pertinent documents to aid in the investigation.
Just last week, GM removed 15 of its employees, including a number of executives, for their roles regarding the defective ignition switches in GM vehicles.
