Aereo has been on the cutting edge of internet TV streaming, but today the Supreme Court issued its ruling that Aereo is in violation of copyright law. Almost every major broadcaster has sued Aereo for its streaming service. The company has been taking TV programs directly from the airways and selling subscriptions to internet users so that the shows can be watched on devices such as the smartphone, iPads or TVs which have an Apple streaming device. In its ruling, the Supreme Court stated that in order to continue in the same manner and in order to stream the same content, Aereo would be required to pay large re-transmission fees to the broadcasters just like a cable or satellite company would. Justice Stephen Breyer stated that Aereo should not be treated differently than a cable company should be. Justice Breyer stated that the process Aereo is using is identical to a cable system.
