Covidien, a medical device manufacturer, just recently booked a legal charge worth $180 million in its third quarter for its payment on the transvaginal pelvic mesh litigation.
Convidien is in the middle of a lawsuit against companies on pelvic mesh items as a result of personal injury claims which led from using such products.
Two of Covidien’s subsidiaries have provided pelvic mesh items to one of the companies in the litigation. Covidient is currently indemnifying the producer on specific claims.
Based from several sources, close to 9,000 pelvic mesh suits from Bard are pending at present in an ongoing federal multi-district litigation.
Thousands of suits have been filed from women in a number of international, state, and federal courts against medical device manufacturers regarding the pelvic mesh. Women are alleging that they’ve suffered personal injuries during and after the implantation procedure.
But the FDA this month made a decision against a complete ban on pelvic mesh product for repairmen on pelvic prolapse repair.
