Several years after ex-tenants filed a suit against owners of the controversial Haste Street Apartment building was engulfed in the fire, a settlement has been reached, and a reconstruction plan has begun.
The apartment building at Haste Street, which consist of a couple restaurants and multiple apartment units, burned down to the ground in November 2011. Afterward the incident, over half of the 68 tenants filed suits against apartment owners Kenneth and Gregory Ent, claiming they’ve neglected issues with the building.
The litigation can be attributed to finding out who was accountable for the incident. While owners were likely at fault, the apartment owners blamed Paramount Elevator Corporation for negligence and alleged the Pacific Gas and Electric Company for transporting too much electric power.
Cayla Awalt, ROEM Development Corporation’s marketing coordinator, said that the contractor for a new building and site demolition started in May. A new building complex is expected for approval as a safe occupation next year.
