A lawyer representing hundreds of victims in civils claims against GM is giving full support on a proposed legislation in the U.S. Senate --- which would make executives from vehicle manufacturers accountable for hiding life-threatening defects from the public.
The Hide No Harm Acts delivers a strong message to companies who placed “greed and profits before safety.”
Brought about by U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Bob Casey, the proposed bill would make it a crime to keep defects hidden from the public eye and could send executives to prison.
GM has been accused of concealing a faulty switch for more than a decade prior to a recall this year. The faulty switches have been linked to over a dozen deaths and over 50 injuries.
The Senate bill calls for a multi-year sentence for executives who had knowledge and hid information that their products could lead to personal injury or death to workers or buyers.
Both senators expected the proposed bill to be brought to the panel later this year.
