Survivors of Concordia Cruise Crash File Suit

A lawsuit was filed in the state of Florida by six of the survivors of the Concordia. The cruise ship ran aground after striking a reef which tore a hole 160 feet long in its side. The ship had 4252 people onboard at the time of the accident and had deviated purposefully from its predetermined route in order to sail closer to the shore. The accident took place back in January of 2012 and 32 passengers lost thier lives. The captain was distracted at the time of the accident and was among the first to abandon ship. The cruise operator simply offered survivors a full refund and an additional 30% off a future cruise. After this initial offering the ante was upped to $14400 to be given in compensation to each passenger. Up until today about a third of the survivors have accepted the offer. However, six survivors have filed a suit in which each of them are seeking $460 million in damages.
