Officials in Utah recently asked the U.S. Supreme Court to consider a review on the state’s ban on gay marriage, a case that may lay out a stage for justices to make a decision as to whether or not same sex couples have a constitutional right to wed.
The state is pushing to save its same sex marriage ban after a couple lower courts ruled it to be unconstitutional. A federal judge brought down the law last year, causing hundreds of gay couples within the state to marry. The Supreme Court earlier said this year to temporarily halt the marriage while Utah appealed.
The 10th U.S. Circuit of Appeals in Denver, also made a ruling against Utah a few months ago, indicating the constitution gives protection to marry, create a family, raise children, and receiving complete protection of marriage laws.
The court may make an announcement this fall as to whether it’ll consider the state’s appeal. If it does push through, the court may issue a huge ruling on same sex marriage by next year.
