Jerry Brown, California’s present governor, will have until Tuesday of this week to veto or sign a bill that would let people make a petition to the judge --- to take any firearm temporarily from an immediate member who may pose a threat to them or others.
This would make the California legislation the first state to permit members of the family to head straight to the judge for a straining order request that would hinder firearms possession (for the time being). Law enforcements in Texas, Connecticut, and Indiana, are given the green light to seek a judge’s order, which would let them confiscate firearms from individuals they deem to be a threat.
Brown will need to meet the Tuesday deadline to veto or sign the Gun Restraining Order Bill (or AB 1014), as well as 700-plus bills that policymakers passed in the remaining session days.
In the latest update, Brown’s office said the governor signed the bill.
